A mouth ulcer is a sore or a break in the mouth's mucous membrane. The sore can appear to be either yellow or white. Its size may vary too, depending upon the infection sustained. A mouth ulcer is usually painful, especially if pressure is applied to it.

A mouth ulcer can be caused by injuries or it can be an aphthous ulcer. Aphthous ulcers are also called canker sores. It is said that everyone would suffer from this at least once in his or her lives. It usually occurs during puberty.

A mouth ulcer cure can definitely work. The first and the most common mouth ulcer cure is a soothing mouthwash. Commercial mouthwashes can easily be bought at drugstores and supermarkets. But warm water mixed with salt should be good enough. Mouthwashes bought at stores usually contain active ingredients like carbenoxolone or thymol glycerin.

Gelatin pastes can also be applied directly on the sore. The paste is usually made of carmellose. These pastes create a protective layer above the sore. It effectively protects the sore away from germs and dust while healing it.

To apply a mouth ulcer cure, paracetamols can also be used. Paracetamol is a type of drug that has to be administered in equal doses. It is widely used to relieved pain, even on young children.

Some mouth ulcer cure types can be bought over-the-counter. But it is highly advisable that you consult the doctor for severe cases of mouth ulcers. Some medications have to be secured with the proper prescription.

Aciclovir cream is an example of a mouth ulcer cure. This one's an antiviral medication that can be used for mouth ulcers caused by the herpes virus. Cimetdine is another cure that was previously used for the stomach ulcer but is now used on the mouth as well.

So if you have a mouth ulcer, you can try these medicines. Should the symptoms persist, do not self-medicate. Check with your doctor. It is always comforting to be treated by a professional.
